5 Reasons to Attend Wild & Scenic

Posted by: Mary Kate Ranii on February 15, 2018

The 4th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival is coming up on Thursday March 8th! PRC is excited to be partnering with Allegheny CleanWays and Chatham University to host this awesome event and are excited to share it with Pittsburgh residents!

Check out the top 5 reasons you should get your ticket today!

1.) Premier Film Festival comes to Pittsburgh. Move over Sundance and South by Southwest, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival is the largest travelling environmental film festival in the country! The Wild & Scenic Film Festival kicks off every year with a week-long festival in Nevada City, California and then travels to almost 200 cities across the United States to inspire communities to protect their health and environment! This year, we’re bringing the Festival on Thursday, March 8 at the Eddy Theater on Chatham University’s Shadyside campus.

2.) Eleven films to educate, entertain, and inspire! Featuring award-winning films from every corner of the planet on topics ranging from river health on the Olympic Penninsula, bat conservation in California, community activism in West Virginia, and much more, the film festival has something for everyone!

3.) Opportunities to get involved in Pittsburgh! Organizations like PRC and Allegheny CleanWays rely on volunteers and community support to fulfill their missions of fighting illegal dumping and diverting materials through recycling, composting, and reuse! Sign up to volunteer with these organizations and others like Humane Animal Rescue, PennEnvironment, Allegheny Land Trust, and 412 Food Rescue at the festival volunteer drive!

4.) Sustainable refreshments! PRC and Allegheny CleanWays are proud to feature Straub Brewery beer, vegan and meaty options from the Franktuary food truck, and popcorn from Chatham University at the 2018 Wild & Scenic Film Festival!

Straub, located in St. Marys, PA, is one of only two breweries in the U.S. that uses returnable bottles. Reusing bottles saves energy, water, and raw materials meaning less environmental impact. Get yourself a pint in one of our branded stainless steel cups!

5.) Support local non-profits. All proceeds from the Wild & Scenic Film Festival benefit PRC and Allegheny CleanWays, two amazing local non-profits that work to protect Pennsylvania’s environment, communities, and health by diverting waste and empowering communities to fight illegal dumping and litter in their regions. PRC and ACW are proud to serve Pennsylvania and can create an even larger impact with your support!
