DEP CLARIFIES ELECTRONICS RECYCLING LAW AND ALLOWS FEE BASED PROGRAMS AS AN INTERIM SOLUTION

The recent clarification of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s policy on fees for e-waste recycling will open the door for PRC to resume the collection of televisions and other CRT devices at our 5 remaining Hard to Recycle Collection Events in Western PA this summer. The change does come with a cost, however, as PRC expects to charge $15 for computer monitors, $25 for TVs, and $35 for projection or consol TVs to ensure these devices are properly handled and responsibly recycled.

PRC agrees with DEP that this is not a solution, but rather a stop gap fix for the short term. The only true solution is amending the CDRA to ensure all Pennsylvanians have free and convenient access to electronics recycling.

You can help by contacting your legislator and asking them to support an amendment to the CDRA which not only protects our environment but creates jobs and economic development across the Commonwealth.

PRC will continue to support the DEP and the Legislature to find the most effective and expedient path to a solution.
