Televisions Update

In 2016 PA DEP clarified their interpretation of the CDRA and allowed recyclers to recover the cost of recycling electronic devices directly from consumers. This shift is the result of the failure of the regulated manufacturers to comply with the law and underwrite the cost of recycling.

PRC’s collection events, like the majority of programs across the state, now charges fees for the most costly electronics to recycle including TV’s, monitors and printers. While we are able to provide a safe outlet for these devices, we are dismayed that the state has not found a way to hold the manufacturers accountable.

PRC agrees with DEP that this is not a solution, but rather a stop gap fix for the short term. The only true solution is amending the CDRA to ensure all Pennsylvanians have free and convenient access to electronics recycling.

You can help by contacting your legislator and asking them fix the CDRA in a way which not only protects our environment but creates jobs and economic development across the Commonwealth.

PRC will continue to support the DEP and the Legislature to find the most effective and expedient path to a solution.
