Earth Day 2017!

Posted by: Mary Kate Ranii on March 17, 2017

At PRC every day is Earth Day, but every April 22 we try to go a little further to show our love for the planet. Join us this year, as we celebrate Earth Day 2017 by giving back to the planet by reducing, reusing, recycling, and volunteering!

Attend ReuseFest

PRC is partnering with UPMC to host our annual Reuse Fest! ReuseFest is a one-day drop off event open to the general public that diverts materials from local landfills to reuse by Pittsburgh non-profits. Clean out your closet and support local non-profits by donating gently used art supplies, bikes, books, clothing, furniture, houseware, medical supplies, pet supplies, school supplies, sporting goods and more!

These materials will be given a second life by awesome organizations like the Animal Rescue League, Global Links, Off the Floor Pittsburgh, Construction Junction and more!

Join us for a Watershed Protection Workshop

Spring is the perfect time to start thinking about the rain! PRC will be in Ross Township on Earth Day conducting a Watershed Awareness/Rain Barrel Workshop. Learn how to use your home to help fight stormwater runoff and do your part improve water quality in Pennsylvania! Not to mention all workshop participants will bring home a FreeGarden RAIN 55-gallon rain barrel! Register here!

Can’t make it on Earth Day? PRC is hosting many more watershed workshops throughout the spring and summer. Find them here.

Visit us in the Northside!

troy-hill-bin-distributionPRC is partnering with Allegheny CleanWays and the Buhl Foundation to present the Northside Keeps it Clean initiative! This initiative works to fight litter and increase recycling in Pittsburgh’s Northside neighborhoods.

Part of this project is distributing recycling bins to 800 Northside residents in the month of April! Join us on Saturday, April 22 at the Brightwood Civic Group in Marshall-Shadeland to receive your bin! Can’t make it that day? check out our full schedule here.

Please note that only current Northside residents are eligible for a recycling bin.

Volunteer with PRC!

green-tvPRC works year-round to protect Pennsylvania’s resources for future generations through our education programs, watershed protection installations, collection events, zero waste services, and much more. We’re starting our busiest season of the year and need your help!

We need help responsibly collecting and recycling electronics, tires, paints, pharmaceuticals, and more at our Collection Events. Volunteers help us direct traffic, interact with the public, take user surveys and more! We also need help building rain gardens, educating the public, distributing recycling bins and more! Check out all our opportunities here.
