Fall Recycling Round Table

Posted by: Mary Kate Ranii on October 18, 2017

On Wednesday, October 11, PRC and dozens of members of the local community gathered at Construction Junction to discuss the current state of recycling in Pennsylvania and future recycling policy ideas at an Environmental Round Table.

Participants heard from a panel of Pennsylvania’s top recycling experts including, John Dernbach, Widener University Law School Professor and Drafter of Act 101, David Hess, Former Secretary of the PA Department of Environmental Protection, Joy Smallwood, Allegheny County Recycling Coordinator, Justin Stockdale, PRC Regional Director, and Howard Wein, PRC Director Emeritus.

Discussed topics ranged from decreasing contamination in the recycling steam, the need for streamlined education, impoving access to recycling and more! Find the full recap of the fall Environmental Round Table here.

The goal of these round tables is to increase public understanding about Act 101 and the recycling landscape in Pennsylvania as well as to gather public comments and opinion to bring to the state legislature to build better recycling policy.

PRC will continue to accept comments from the public about recycling and Act 101. Please email your comments and concerns to act101@prc.org. PRC will also be launching more online resources about Act 101 in the next few weeks – keep an eye on www.prc.org for updates.

Thank you to our panelists, our participants, and our sponsor for helping us continue the conversation about recycling and beyond!
