Zero Waste Success in 2017!

As 2017 comes to a close, PRC’s Zero Waste Pennsylvania’s (ZWPA) program celebrates another successful year! ZWPA program provides waste diversion services for events all over Pittsburgh, ranging from large fully-staffed events to small parties. You may have seen our crew around at some of your favorite events, including the Three River’s Arts Festival or The Pittsburgh Marathon, or some new events such as Deutschtown Music Festival or Maker Faire Pittsburgh.

The internationally recognized Zero Waste standard is diverting 90% of an event’s waste away from landfill, and that’s exactly what we strive for at every event. Diverted waste can be sent to be composted, recycled, repurposed, or reused. ZWPA records and tracks waste composition at each event to ensure improvements are being made and new Zero Waste strategies are being implemented year after year. Overall, events that we assist with regularly are showing great progress, and we are proud to say that some events have already risen above the Zero Waste standard! Through our services, 46 TONS of waste has been diverted away to be recycled, composted, or reused! The combined diversion rate for all of ZWPA’s 2017 events is an amazing 81%!
