PROPERLY PREPARE TO DROP OFF HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS AT 2020 EVENTS
On Saturday, June 27, PRC will launch its 18th season of household chemical collections by hosting an event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wild Things Park in Washington County.
This event will introduce new safety measures and a modified fee structure ($20 flat fee) to offer a nearly contact-free event in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INDIVIDUALS ATTENDING A 2020 HOUSEHOLD CHEMICAL COLLECTION:
Participants must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Place all items in car truck or truck bed;
- Wear a mask when speaking with on-site personnel;
- Remain in vehicle at all times;
- Bring exact change or check (payable to PRC);
- Visit PRC’s website for updates before attending the event.
A flat fee of $20 per vehicle will include disposal of the following materials: aerosol cans, automotive fluids, chemistry sets, gasoline and kerosene, household cleaners, mercury thermometers, paint products, pesticides/garden chemicals, photo chemicals and pool chemicals.
Oversized loads will be subject to additional charges at the discretion of on-site staff. Participants will also pay $12 per fire extinguisher and $15 per pound of liquid mercury.
“PRC has scheduled five other household chemical collections to take place throughout 2020,” said Sarah Alessio Shea, PRC Collection Events Manager. “Due to the ever-changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, all event dates, locations, acceptable materials and associated fees are subject to change, so we encourage residents to check prc.org for updates before attending an event.”
