GLASS RECYCLING: ALLEGHENY COUNTY SPONSORS EIGHT WEEKLONG COLLECTIONS

Posted on July 13, 2021 by Pennsylvania Resources Council

PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program – which provides a free recycling service that rotates through a variety of locations in western Pennsylvania – will collect glass at eight regional parks thanks to the sponsorship of Allegheny County.

“The bin will visit each Allegheny County park for six days, Saturday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and provide residents with a safe method for recycling glass while eliminating the need to interact with other individuals or touch shared surfaces,” according to PRC Recycling Markets Program Manager Ashley DiGregorio.  “PRC is excited to partner with Allegheny County to make glass collection more easily accessible to a wider array of residents across the region.”

Individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no color sorting required).  Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on.  Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site.

The PRC Traveling Glass Recycling Bin’s 2021 weeklong engagements sponsored by Allegheny County:

Saturday, July 17, thru Thursday, July 22
HARTWOOD ACRES PARK, lot near Central Elementary School on Middle Rd

Saturday, August 7, thru Thursday, August 12
HARRISON HILLS PARK, Yakaon Shelter

Saturday, September 18, thru Thursday, September 23
BOYCE PARK, ski lodge parking lot

Saturday, October 2, thru Thursday, October 7
DEER LAKES PARK, playground parking lot, Mahaffey Rd

Saturday, October 23, thru Thursday, October 28
SOUTH PARK, VIP Lot, Corrigan Dr and 100 Acres Dr

Saturday, November 6, thru Thursday, November 11
ROUND HILL PARK, Hereford Dr and Round Hill Rd

Saturday, November 27, thru Thursday, December 2
NORTH PARK, swimming pool parking lot

Saturday, December 4, thru Thursday, December 9
WHITE OAK PARK, Chestnut Pavilion parking lot, Jacks Run Rd and McClintock Rd

“While some individuals drop off glass containers during Traveling Bin engagements because their municipalities no longer collect glass curbside, others simply choose to take advantage of this program because it provides residents with a higher quality glass recycling option than typical curbside programs and they know that the glass they deposit into the bin meets the highest standards and will be fully recycled.”

Since hitting the road 13 months ago, PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin has collected 160 tons of glass at 28 appearances.

PRC’s Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program is sponsored by Owens-Illinois, Inc. and CAP Glass and is made possible through a partnership with Michael Brothers Hauling & Recycling.  For more information – including a schedule of upcoming appearances and information about how to bring glass recycling to your community – visit prc.org/glassrecycling or call 412-488-7490.
