Beaver County Glass Program

Posted on July 15, 2019 by Pennsylvania Resources Council

See below for updates on Beaver County’s program, as of June 15, 2022.

Since June 5, 2019, the Beaver County Department of Waste Management has offered glass drop-off services to its residents at the Brady’s Run Park Recycling Center in Brighton Township. As in many Western PA communities, haulers and the county’s waste management department stopped collecting glass January 1.

Holly Vogt, director of the Beaver County Department of Waste Management, worked for several months to develop “From Glass to Glass, Through Beaver County’s Lens.” Beaver County residents can bring recyclable glass and gently used eyeglasses, sunglasses and reading glasses to the Brady’s Run Park Recycling Center.

Eyewear collected through the program will be shared with local doctors or sent abroad through Mission Vision for reuse in developing countries.

Where to recycle

Beaver County residents can bring clean glass jars and bottles of any color to the Beaver County Department of Waste Management in Brady’s Run Park, 121 Brady’s Run Road in Brighton Township, any time during the facility’s normal operating hours. The Brady’s Run Park center operates during Mon, Tues, Thurs ( 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM),   Wed (Noon – 5:00PM), and every 3rd Saturday of the month (8:30 AM – Noon). Residents can bring container glass during these hours for recycling.

There’s also an education portion to the project, Vogt said.

“We’re going to educate the public about how glass can be recycled to eliminate contamination,” she said. “That’s some of the issues that curbside (recycling) had in the past.”

The county is working with a bottling company to accept the collected glass. Residents can bring glass bottles and jars of any color. Caps, lids and labels are acceptable, but the jars and bottles must be empty and cleaned out.

“If there’s still liquid or material inside the jar, it can contaminate all of the glass in the recycling bin,” Vogt said.

Any eyewear being recycled must be kept separate from glass bottles and jars. In this collection program, the county cannot accept window glass, light bulbs, drinking glasses or stemware, televisions, dishware, ceramics or mirrors.
