As 2020 comes to a close and we reflect on a year overflowing with uncertainty, it’s surprising and reassuring to remember just how many good things actually took place during the past 12 months.
Despite countless logistical challenges, PRC experienced tremendous success protecting our watersheds, educating the public, and diverting material from landfills via collection events.
Many programs experienced a significant increase in participation, which proves that even a global pandemic could not stop Pennsylvanians from finding value in recycling, composting and reducing their environmental footprint.
For example If shoes are in good, usable condition, consider donating them to a reuse/resale organization. If not, find a drop-off centers that will accept them for recycling. Through their Reuse A sneakers program, Nike grinds up old athletic shoes of any brand to resurface athletic fields, courts, tracks and playgrounds.
There are green drop-off bins located at various retail sites. Unfortunately, we do not have a way to keep track of the locations. If you find a TexGreen drop-off bin, they will accept shoes in non-wearable condition. However, if you find a green box from GemText, they only accept usable shoes.
We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to members, sponsors and volunteers who supported PRC throughout the year, and we thank each and every person who took part in a PRC program in 2020.
Wishing you the joy of family, the gift of friends and the best of everything in 2021.
