Several months ago PRC began building Green Stormwater Infrsatructures (GSI) all over Delaware County with help in the form of grants from DEP Growing Greener, The National Rivers and Wildlife Foundation and The William Penn Foundation! These rain gardens were built in partnership with the Eastern Delaware County Stormwater Collaborative. Volunteers and several new friends joined in to make quick work of a big job, reporting back that rain garden building has “brought neighbors together!”
Big and small, these gardens reduce runoff and help filter thousands of gallons of rain water each year through the natural filtration process. The runoff to municipal stormwater lines may carry all manner of pollutants which effect wildlife and water health. GSI projects, like rain gardens are a simple, scalable solution to this problem.
