TWO OCTOBER “REUSE FEST” EVENTS BENEFIT LOCAL NONPROFITS

Posted on October 4, 2021 by Pennsylvania Resources Council

FALL COLLECTIONS TAKE PLACE IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY & LAWRENCE COUNTY

Clean out the garage…the basement…the overflowing closets throughout the house in preparation for two large-scale collections of materials to be REUSED by local nonprofits.

In October, the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) will host “ReuseFest” – a one-of-a-kind drop-off event for gently used materials destined for reuse by numerous local nonprofit organizations – at two locations in western Pennsylvania:

ALLEGHENY COUNTY
Saturday, October 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
North Park Swimming Pool parking lot

Nonprofits will include Brother’s Brother Foundation, Dress for Success, The Education Partnership, Free Ride, Goodwill of Southwestern PA, Grow Pittsburgh, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh and Off the Floor.

LAWRENCE COUNTY
Saturday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Westgate Plaza, W. State Street, New Castle

Nonprofits will include DON (Disability Options Network) Services, Construction Junction, Lawrence County Humane Society and Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

“This one-of-a-kind collection event provides individuals with an opportunity to responsibly donate a variety of unwanted but still usable items to multiple local nonprofits at one convenient location,” according to PRC Recycling Operations Specialist Josh Schuneman.  “To streamline the process at PRC events, we ask participants to pack all materials in their car trunks or truck beds and then stay in their vehicles while staff unloads the materials.”

At both collections, individuals can drop off bedding/bath, clothing, furniture, kitchen items, medical supplies and usable building materials.  Visit prc.org/reuse for a complete list of additional items accepted at each site.

“Since launching ReuseFest in 2012 in Pittsburgh, PRC has collected and diverted tens of thousands of pounds of materials from local landfills,” he explained.  “Items donated and reused to benefit the local community have included everything from wheelchairs and clothing to furniture and literally the kitchen sink, and all materials donated at ReuseFest are reused in some fashion, whether resold, repurposed or given to those in need in our region.”

ReuseFest is sponsored by UPMC.

For a complete list of participant requirements and materials collected, visit prc.org/reuse.  For additional information, call the Pennsylvania Resources Council at 412-488-7490 x 7.
