PRC’s E-Steward Certification
PRC’s Role as an E-Steward
PRC commits to the safe, ethical, and responsible recycling of electronic waste through recognition by the Basel Action Network (BAN), as an E-Steward. The designation recognizes Cities, companies, and nonprofits taking concrete measures to eliminate the export of hazardous electronic waste (e-waste). As a result, e-waste is not shipping to developing countries. So, the standards are protecting illegal dumping, processing by prisoners, and exporting hazardous goods.
Throughout the past 15 years, PRC “Hard-to-Recycle” Collection Events is enabling 23,000+ residents to properly dispose of certain items, because we collected nearly 2,000,000 pounds of electronics, 8,800 tires, 2,400 Freon-containing appliances along with cell phones, polystyrene, compact fluorescent bulbs, alkaline batteries, and other materials not accepted for curbside refuse collection.
In 2018, we became one of the first nonprofits to receive E-Stewards Certification, but our organization has been working with another responsible E-Steward, eLoop, for over a decade.
