DON’T TAKE THAT TO THE CURB! WHY HARD-TO-RECYCLE MATERIALS REQUIRE SPECIAL DISPOSAL

Posted on July 1, 2020 by Pennsylvania Resources Council

PRC provides responsible and convenient disposal options for items that are not eligible for curbside recycling, and since 2003 more than 35,000 residents have participated in PRC hard-to-recycle collection events.

Learn why these common hard-to-recycle materials pose a threat to the environment.

“E-WASTE” – electronic products such as televisions, computers and phones

Recycling TVs, computers and laptops is the law!  The Covered Device Recycling Act requires everyone in Pennsylvania to responsibly recycle certain electronic devices including televisions, CPUs and more. CLICK HERE for a list of electronics required to be recycled.

Disposing of e-waste responsibly with an it disposal manchester prevents chemicals such as lead, cadmium and beryllium from polluting the ground and water.

There is also a data center decommissioning who can help you with your e-waste.

FLUORESCENT TUBES

If buried in a landfill, fluorescent tubes can leak mercury into the environment.   Additionally, most materials in bulbs can be recycled and used again!

FREON APPLIANCES

Freon – proven to cause rapid deterioration of the ozone layer, a leading cause of climate change – can seep into the environment when disposed of improperly.

MICROWAVE OVENS

Computer components in microwaves contain toxic elements that can leak into groundwater sources.

TIRES

Tires contain a wide variety of chemicals, almost none of which are healthy for the planet.  Also, tires take up a lot of space in landfills that could otherwise be used by materials that can only be thrown away.
