Expand your recycling efforts to include kitchen scraps and yard debris by taking part in a Backyard Composting webinar and learn how to turn these unwanted materials into a valuable resource for your garden.
Individuals living in western Pennsylvania are invited to take part in an upcoming Backyard Composting webinar to explore the overall process of composting, methods for setting up a compost pile, proper maintenance and ways to use finished compost.
“At this time we’re conducting the Backyard Composting webinars specifically for individuals living in southwestern Pennsylvania since they’ll need to drive to a location in Pittsburgh to pick up their bins soon after completing the webinar,” according to PRC Education Specialist Nancy Martin.
Cost of the Backyard Composting webinar is $70 and includes a FreeGarden EARTH compost bin, which features an 82-gallon capacity ideal for both urban and suburban settings.
“Food waste and yard trimmings make up a significant percentage of what’s routinely sent to landfills, and it doesn’t need to be that way,” said Martin. “Backyard composting enables individuals to turn these unwanted materials into a valuable resource to benefit their gardening efforts.”
Upcoming webinars will take place online from 6:30 – 7:30:
Tuesday, August 11
Wednesday, August 26
Tuesday, September 8
Wednesday, September 23
Tuesday, October 6
Wednesday, October 21
Each Individual taking part in the online workshop will register for a time to pick up a compost bin at PRC’s North Side location at 828 W. North Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233. Pick up will take place weekly on Wednesdays from noon to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
