PRC is moving its annual fundraiser online and embracing its mission to prevent waste and conserve Pennsylvania’s environmental resources. PRC’s 2022 “Zero Waste Non-Event” will eliminate waste typically generated by the dinner held for hundreds of people and instead focus on raising funds essential to supporting PRC’s operations and mission while recognizing supporters digitally. Social media posts recognizing sponsors and highlighting the PRC work they support will begin on October 10.
Since 2009, along with its large-scale waste diversion, education, and watershed protection efforts, PRC has provided waste reduction techniques through its Zero Waste Pennsylvania program to various commercial businesses, institutions, residents, and special events across the state. PRC services have been used by a wide demographic from individuals to Fortune 500 Companies and now PRC is utilizing its own waste reduction techniques for its Zero Waste Non-Event.
“We thought it was important we lead by example for our vision of a Pennsylvania where nothing is wasted. With that in mind, we chose to not hold a fundraising event, but instead we will recognize our sponsors multiple times online throughout October in significant and creative ways,” said Darren Spielman, executive director, Pennsylvania Resources Council. “Our supporters help us leverage our on-the-ground work and our technical expertise to grow our impact. We couldn’t accomplish what we do without them.”
Those interested in viewing the Zero Waste Non-Event can visit Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter throughout the month of October as PRC celebrates its sponsors. Organizations and individuals who are interested in reducing and diverting waste and preserving the environment are invited to become PRC Supporters.
Supporters have helped PRC in 2021:
- nearly double its glass recycling operation to 550 tons of glass from 31,000 households;
- train close to 2,300 adults to reduce waste and recycle;
- educate more than 600 school students about watersheds, water quality and waste;
- partner with 19 nonprofits to keep 40,000 pounds of materials in use and out of landfills;
- implement green stormwater infrastructure projects to help manage about 2.5 million gallons of stormwater per year, and much more.
