April 22, 2020, marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the planet’s largest civic event, currently mobilizing 1 billion individuals worldwide each year.
While staying close to home this year, you can still take part in numerous Earth Day activities throughout the coming week. Join PRC in celebrating Earth Week as we offer several close-to-home experiences:
- “PLASTIC WARS” VIRTUAL SCREENING & DISCUSSION – Join PRC and Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens for an online screening of the PBS “Frontline” documentary followed by a discussion of the plastics industry Friday, April 17, at 7 p.m.
- “RECYCLING AND WASTE REDUCTION” WEBINAR – On Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, at 2 p.m., join PRC’s newest online offering, the “Recycling and Waste Reduction” webinar FREE to registrants. Recycling rules have changed, so re-learn how to properly recycle and learn new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle in the comfort of your home.
- “WILD & SCENIC” FILM SHOWN ONLINE – Don’t wait until PRC’s annual festival to find inspiration in amazing films. Enjoy a preview screening on Friday, April 24, by visiting PRC’s Bug Blog and look for our Film Fridays” blog series.
- “ZERO WASTE LIVING AT HOME” BLOG SERIES – Visit PRC’s website to read this new series offering tips concerning how to uphold zero waste strategies during these trying times.
- LENS ON LITTER PHOTO CONTEST – Take your camera along on walks in your community and creatively photograph litter blight. Then submit your photo for a chance to win $500 in PRC’s 36th annual Lens on Litter photo contest. Lens on Litter offers a top prize of $500 in each of two categories: adult and student (through grade 12). Four additional prizes will be awarded with second-place winners receiving $250 and third-place winners receiving $100 in each category. The contest is open to amateur photographers only. All photos must be taken in Pennsylvania. Entries will be judged on six criteria: anti-litter message, originality, photographic technique, quality of photo, originality of title and severity of litter shown.
